Life Without A Netbook

Back in the day (last year)! I used a pencil. Netbooks are so much better. I can’t even  imagine a life without a netbook. Last year we had to write our story's in our exercise books and copy it all in the Mac’s it was a waste of time really. With netbooks all you have to do is go on to our blogs and type it all in.

I love using my netbook to go on to the Internet. Except there is a problem the connection fails its so frustrating. Sometimes it makes me fall behind. So I have to work even harder to finish my work. That’s not cool.

But I have to say there are some positives about our netbooks, for example we have easy access on to the Internet and when we don’t know how to spell a word all we have to do is click on thesaurus (one out of many websites we are permitted to go on), and type in the word that we are confused with and it will came up with oppositions.

The netbook is great but I would like tell you some improvements you could make. One of them is Tux paint when we have tasks that we have to draw pictures and post it on our blogs it makes our pictures seem just a little bit babyish.

If the pilot failed I would really be gutted. Having a netbook is a really big advantage for the year 5 and up. I just cant imagine a life without a netbook.

Mr Coope's Fantastic Meals

Every day we wake up smelling this heavenly smell. Can you guess were that aroma was  coming from? Well it was coming from the lovely fresh bread Mr Coope makes every morning. It is delicious! Most of the kids from team Bentzon ended up going for seconds just for the bread!

The lunches we fantastic. We had burgers and Hot dogs with sides of chips. That’s the only thing’s I remember any way. Just reading over this makes me crave for hot dogs yum!

Don’t get me started on dinner, it was the best! I went up for seconds one night. I was so full after that like a jar over flowing( I’m the jar). No offense mum but I love Mr Coope’s Meals! There delicious.

My Best Camp Ever!

Sailing, it was the only thing I was really thinking about in the lead up to camp, but when the time came, I felt really nervous! To my surprise, I ended up volunteering for demonstrating how to sail. When I was out in the water, all the things Peter told me to do when into my left ear and straight out the other.

I was having trouble at first but when people started to came out to sail, I was felling just a little bit better. The thing I was most scared of was when I had to turn and move my whole body over to face the wind.

Coming back was better, but then I wanted to keep on sailing! I think I got the hang of it in the end. I would love to do that again. Even though I was really scared.

Going To Camp Benzon (Kawau Island)

Yes! In 1 week we are going to Camp Benzon. This is going to be great.

If your asking were camp Benzon is? It is on Kawau Island 8km off the mainland. To get there you have to catch a ferry from Sands Pit.

Our class have been researching about Camp Benzon and found some really cool things like Abseiling, Sailing and here's one that I never new existed A Burma trail. It is a rope course which you can do blind folded or at night.

I am looking forward to going on this camp because I have never done this before. Also its with my friends. Its just sad how we cant fit any lollies in our bag because we don't have enough space in our bags!

The challenge for me would be the Abseiling because I have never done it before. Also the Burma trail. I’m just lucky that we have some one guiding us through it! To be honest.

I cant wait to go to Camp. Its going to be awesome!!

Tennis Coaching

Tennis, in my opinion I am an expert, well kind of. I have lessons every Saturday, which is good for excercise and for learning more about the new sport. It's great.

As it came to 11:30 our class went straight to the courts. We had an appointment with Marcel, he is a professional tennis coach. After he introduced himself, the girls went up first to get a racket, then the boys. To warm up, Marcel showed us a ball skill to try and control it. We put the balls on the racket and we started to make it bounce. Some of my other class mates had their balls flying all over the place!!! It was funny.

After that we had a little game practicing the forehand skill. We got into partners for this and mine was Chante. First of all she went on the other side of the net. Marcel said to her side of the net to walk backwards and put down their rackets but keep hold of the ball. Then they started throwing the balls in front of us and we had to try and hit it back to them.

"Now we are going to play a little game now" Marcel said to all of us. We played rallies. Here is some of the rules, if the ball bounces twice in your out thats what happens to me heaps of times, I was gutted. One time when I was still on the court I was rallying Marcel and I bet him, but I still think he let me win or I was just to good for him. Yeah definitely the second one.

That lesson was great. I cant wait till next week, when we learn a different skill. I think it might be backhand.

Ice Cream Comets

Did you know that some comets are edible? Well our class made some, out of Icy cold Ice cream an Ice cream cone and some biscuits and sprinkles. My comet had Chocolate ice cream on it,(Actually comets are made out of ice and dust).

There was people rushing out the door like a stampede. They were rushing because when the ice cream melts in your hands you will have a melted comet! Though I couldn't wait to eat mine even if it did melt. I ran out of the door as I was inpatient to start eating. I could taste it all ready.

The Rocks and Sprinkles were crushed and bashed to try and make it smaller, but it ended up looking like dust and not so much as rocks. When I tucked into my ice cream my teeth felt cold, my friend said that I had sensitive teeth. Even though my teeth felt cold I carried on do you want to know why? Because it was worth it!

The last lick felt good, also there was a sticky mess through out my fingers, but then I wanted more ice cream. So then I scavenged around for more because they were bringing trays out with delicious lumps of ice cream on it. I picked a lump of vanilla flavored ice cream off the tray and ate it, and by my surprise it was yuck! After that I was picking my teeth because I could feel bits of biscuits and sprinkles stuck in my mouth! Out side where they were putting on the biscuits and sprinkles, right beneath their feet was a huge crumbly mess!

After that I felt sick but I could still taste it. YUM!! I cant wait for another ice cream comet, and you should try it out, just be warned, you will have a big mess after. So if you are under the age of eight ask your parents!!

Exploring Space

Cleaning Out My Cousins Chicken Coop

“Start Cleaning out the Chicken coop, now!!” my auntie said with a grin on her face. At first I thought she was evil but then I thought GROSS!!!!

My cousin and I walked into the coop, and it stunk like a skunk which just farted!!! Just before we started picking up the scraps, we looked in the hen house were the chicken’s lay there eggs. There was only one hen trying to lay an egg. My cousin thought it was going to die because its been there in the same position for ages. Except when it’s hungry.

When we were picking up the scrap food, my cousin was looking at me and picked up something squishy. Can you guess what that was? POO!!!!! The chooks were pooing in there food YUCK!!.

I was waiting for a scream to come out of her mouth, but it took a while for it to arrive she looked like she was going to faint to be honest. Just then a scream came bursting out of her mouth like a baboon.

Now that, was the worst experience of my life. That's going on my list for what not to not do ever again, but to be honest it was pretty humorous as well.

AFL Couching

Isn't AFL ( Australian Football League) an Australian game? I was intrigued when I heard there were Aussie Rules couching, coming in to teach us how to play. Next we would be taking up Canadian Ice hockey!

When we learnt a skill called the Drop Punt,we went strait into a game, trying to hit the innocent teachers Miss Garden and Mr Summerville."Oh no!" Miss Garden said as she thought she was going to get hit with the ball, sadly for all us kids she was wrong!!!! All of us were really bad, our aiming was pathetic.

Polar Bears

The polar bear has a thick coating of fur to keep it warm. It also has bumps on its paws to help them grip on to the ice. Polar Bear's have sharp claws so they can pick up their food.

Normally Polar bears are found alone, but cubs live with their mother for 2 and a half years. In that time the mother protects and teaches her cub how to hunt for food.

The Polar Bear's main food is the seal. Polar bears finds the it’s breathing hole and waits for the it to come up and take a breath, and then the Polar bears grabs the seal and throws it on the ice so it can eat it.

When a Polar Bear lives in the wild it can live for about 20 years. One polar bear managed to live for 41 years in a zoo.

RWC Begins

On Friday the 9th of 2011 the most remarkable event happened, yes it is the Rugby World Cup. The music the fireworks everything and it is all for the RWC.

The opening ceremony was amazing. The haka was performed by Maori people it was spectacular, people were dressed up in humorous costumes too. The Fireworks was a blast.

The crowed went wild when the commentator said “ Let the RWC games begin. First game of all representing New Zealand is the All Blacks and representing Tonga is Ikale Tahi in other words Sea Eagles. The score was 41-10 to the All Blacks.

Although the city struggled with the huge crowd, most people agreed that the opening ceremony was a huge success.

RWC ( Rugby World Cup)

I believe that the RWC hosted in NZ would help us Socially and economically by NZ Getting more money,to help ChCh build new buildings. The tourists would come from all around the world too. However the possible bad things of the RWC would be after games, people and the team that they were voting for lost. Then they might go to the pub and drink in anger and start fights. Also Drugs could come into NZ with tourists.

My Flag

I designed this flag to represent me and my family.

We Need A Makeover!!

My class mate Chante has marked my second paragraph and gave me a 10/12.

Rm 17s courtyard desperately needs a makeover! The following are reasons for this. Our courtyard is ugly, no space when fields are closed, kids get bowled over by seniors in the breeze and also it is hard to access our deck. We have surveyed kids from room 16 and found information as proof to redesign room 17s courtyard.

Firstly to entice children to come, we need to fix the tap and the ditch has to go. The ugly drain in the middle has grass growing in it! It makes our courtyard uninviting. Also mud is on the wall behind the sports shed. As well as this, the concrete is uneven which makes games like handball hard to play. Not a very enticing area at all!

Unfortunately when the fields close there is a cause of crowded conditions. Like in the breeze, little kids get pushed and shoved, by the seniors with their sports gear. We really need more space!

With out being able to access our deck it makes the courtyard seem old and not enticing.
If we take out the rail stopping us getting us on to the deck it would make it easier to get onto the deck. We have to convince the board to take the rails off!

I think we really need a make-over don’t you.

Rm 17's Extreme Courtyard Makeover Eddition

Room 17 is redesigning our courtyard. The following paragraphs are about what me and Shoal's idea's were.

One of our idea's was to put a basket ball hoop on the side of the hall. With no back board it would cost $45.00. I think we should buy a basket ball hoop alone because we could bolt the back board and hoop together.

For the back board of the basket ball hoop it would cost $248.00.I think we should have a back board because if we miss the shot it won't go on to the roof. Also Shoal's dad sells bolt's so we could get some from him.

Redesging A Computer Mouse

Today's task was to redesign a computer mouse. My plan was to make it a different shape make it glow and some how make it make a noise. Instead of having the shape of a computer mouse I made it the shape of a guitar.

I added two guitar heads for clicking and mad e the guitar body bigger so it would suit any hand and it would look appealing. It also makes a sound when you click on any thing on your computer. The guitar looking mouse would have small and very quit fans underneath so it could float.

Redesigning Our Netbook Cases

“ I wonder what we are doing today”? said Vivienne. “ I don't know” I replied to her. As the second bell rang for school to start. Something caught my eye, which was on the projector. When I read it, it said “ the B.A.R key. Bigger, Add, Replace. Our class had to redesign our net book cases, not physically but we had to draw it.

First I made the case bigger so I could have a bigger flat screen television. Also I just saw that I don’t really need the handles so I replaced it with a stereo, and a lot more.
I added these features because it would be fun if we were doing it in real life. The T.V and D.V.D player was added for some more entertainment. Instead of handles I added A stereo so when I am writing or we are aloud free time I could just listen and relax. Instead of getting up and grabbing my net book from the cabbed I installed some little hover craft’s.

Marble Track

Plan.

To make our marble track my group has been given, 10 pieces of paper and one meter of tape. With the amount of six newspaper’s we are going to be rolling them up in to tubes. Our group is going to connect them up at the end of each tube. We are going to be putting holes at the Beginning and the end of each rolled up newspaper so the marble can flow through. Also were going to try and use our tape wisely. I’m going to make the tubes, Chante is going to well balance our creation while Maru is taping it together.

What We Did.

“ I’ll start rolling the paper” I said. “Ok” Chante and Maru replied. As we started our invention strait away we got a positive attitude, but then I heard a plop on the ground. It was our tubes the weren't connected properly. So we tried to make it stronger with pieces of sellotape. Our group couldn't stick to the plan because it wasn’t working as we hoped it would, we were guttered . In the end we did not succeed. I hope that the next challenge will be a little easier.

Finally Swimming Starts

Yes! swimming has began. I have been dreading it for the last week. Before we got to the pools we had a choice, we could go into the big pool with Mr Marks, or we could go into the leisure pool with Miss Garden. I chose the big pool.

As I went into the pool slowly I could smell the chlorine, and when I was fully in the water it was instantly cold. I had second thoughts for being in the big pool, because I knew that the leisure pool was definitely warmer than the pool I was in.

“We are going to do freestyle” Mr Marks said to us.When it was my turn my arm’s were exhausted, and to make it even better Mr Marks kept on telling us what we needed to improve. I had to work on my arms.

After we did all of our strokes we had extra time. When Mr Marks told us we could have free time everybody said “yes!. Me and my friends did flips and competitions. Sadly we had to go out of the pool and get ready to go back to school.

Vote For The Best Introductions

I have tried to make two introductions about what I did in the holidays, but they are about the same things. So can you please vote for the best introduction by typing your answer in the box below the two choices. The first paragraph is going straight into the action and the second is going straight to my feeling's or what I was thinking. Vote for which is best.

“Hurry up” I said to my dad and sister, as I start hopping into the luge with excitement. When we arrived in Rotovages ( Rotorua). Our first activity was going down the luge.Down I went trying to steer it and just before I crashed in to somebody, I quickly read the instructions which I could not see. Later on I got the hang of it and got to go on it again but this time the intermediate it was more fun than the first time I went on. Half way on the intermediate lane I felt like I was on air but, I wasn't I was just going down a hill. After that l had to slow down because it was finished I had to wait a while because my sister and dad were taking very long to come down.

Cool I thought as I went inside the luge.Quickly I thought how do I steer this thing. After that I panicked and nearly crashed into somebody. A while later I got the hang of it and tried to go faster and faster, but then this sign was coming closer and closer it wanted us to slow down. “Oh” I said as I slowed down, it was the end. I really wanted to go on again I even begged for another go. Sadly we had no more passes.

Glee

This term I really wanted to build up my confidence. To do that me and my friends wanted to audition for glee. My friends and I made it in thanks to Mrs M (Muliaumasealii). Me and Chante my friend got taught ballet and we had to teach the rest of the people. Our practices were at Thursdays lunch times and after school till five o’clock. After all that had work we learnt all our moves and places. Next challenge was to get ready to perform on Friday all the people at glee had to go to the library to get dressed up and look pretty.Sadly some people ended up look like clowns. Next session we are going to be singing definitely my favorite category.

Hieroglyphics

The Greek word Hieroglyphics is hard to pronounce even hard to spell ,it has to represent a word a salable or sound. It is made out of two Greek words. Hieroglyphics is a kind of sacred carving or a familiar object. The name Marks is mostly found in a temples or a palace's in Egypt. These buildings were built thousands of years ago, but they are still standing today.

Why Do Babies Need More Sleep Than Grown Ups?

The smaller the baby the more sleep they need. Babies require more sleep than adults.

All babies grow when they are sleeping. Young kids only need more sleep than babies, but less sleep than adults.Babies do little as sleep and eat.

While adults are sleeping the worn cells are repaired.Adults need sleep because they have a period of rest.So they are ready for work the next day.

The bodies of grown ups only need food for energy, but smaller bodies need food for bones and muscle also for energy. They need all of that food because they do a lot of running. Until the reach of age goes to 1-2 years.

Who Were The Spartans

The Spartans lived in town in ancient grease, which was called Sparta. The Spartans were known for there love of freedom, honesty and courage.

No luxury for the boys at the age of 7, they got taken away from there family's, and only trained for war. To do that they had to grow there hair long, when they grew older they became police men or soldiers.

The soldiers fought all the time either for them selves or a city that would pay them. They work in they fields and the city were done by captured women and men, they were called helots.

The women were extremely tough in Sparta, they feasted if a son had died brave ,in battle. They even went as far as if a son returned from battle and lost they ,would kill them.

Japan Double Disaster

As the force of nature occurred in Japan people were seeped up by the tsunami out to sea. This terrifying sight was seen by the people whom lived off the coast of Japan. The magnitude was 8.9 which was double the magnitude in Christchurch. The houses were scattered like toys upon the water.

The earthquake didn't cause so much catastrophic because the houses were built to stand, even when a earthquake is happening but the disaster made a extensive crack in the nuclear plant which had made a fire. Even though the double disaster had just happened it sounds like a massive death toll. The magnitude was 8.9. Thousand of people evacuated from there homes.

The Tsunami was 30 feet tall (10 meters), that’s there biggest wave in the current event that has happened in Japan. It also is the biggest Tsunami seance world war 2.The death toll grew throughout the day.The violent wall of water captured heaps of houses, cars also, ships got swept out at sea and some got caught in a whirlpool.

There was a large amount of people evacuating and trying to find higher ground away from the Tsunami. After that dint doubt that people were terrorized and felt blue. I feel apologetic for them.

Cricket Coaching

“Cool cricket, I love it” I told my friend “yeah OK ,whatever” she replied quickly. Every week room 17 have cricket lessons out on the field in the evenings. I like cricket because I know how to play and I enjoy it. Hammond the coach first taught us the pool shot.I have never heard of that shot ,well I have never heard of any shots that's weird, how I love cricket but I hardly have any experience.

One Thursday we learnt the pull shot with Hammond. With the pull shot we had to split up in teams of four. We all had to try and hit the ball between these two cones, I hit them way out between the cones. Sometimes I hit it out of bounds and sometimes at the back of me.

We were all sitting down waiting for Hammond to tell us we could go and practice the front foot drive. For the Front foot drive we had to hit the ball between the cones like the pool shot , but we put the two balls on the Tee and hit it through cones. It started off being tricky, because I kept on missing the Ball. Later on I got used to it, but I still need a bit more practice.

Tennis Tournament

“Wake up honey you have a big day to day” said mum “I know but I’m too tired” I replied.I have a big tennis tournament I have to try and beat two people, one from Ellerslie and one from the same tennis group as me.

As I walked on to the court I felt nervous as the first person I had to beat was the Madeira from Ellerslie. It was I long game the points started as love (0) then 30 40 deuce 30...at the end I won. I felt happy but at the same time tired because it Isn’t over yet. I have to beat another one it was like Wellington vs Wellington It was super trying after the first match.

Next one It was just the same but the points were different who ever got 9 games won, Meg the person I had to try and beat won . At the end of the day I felt sad but still happy because it was FUN!!.

The seed

In a book named The Seed there were two tribes the Chafer tribe and the scarab tribe. One day a cherry seed dropped from the sky. and it landed right on the boarder line. The Scarab and Chafer tried to take the seed and drag it to their side but it just wouldn't budge because the other tribe was doing the same at the same time. That meant war said one of the tribes kings. They spent years of preparing and making armor. When they were ready for war they where distracted because the seed was gone. it had buried it self under ground and grown in to a cherry tree. the trunk was on the boarder line but the brunches were on both sides of the territory.

New Netbooks

At anytime and anyplace in GI we can use our new netbooks , other wise we will be disconnected to the Internet. We have our net books so we can be ready for the future, because we never know when we will need to use these skills that we are practising to do now.

Room 17 were sitting on the mat listing to the clear instructions that Mrs Burt gave us on how to un- box our new net books.
We also had a serial number. With antictipation we waited for Mrs Burt to tell us too press the ON BUTTON.

It is amazing when all our students look and feel energised when they do school in their own time like lunch, interval and even in the morning when you walk into class and see just about every one on their netbooks. When I get ready for school I feel so energised because we get to work on our net books.

My Holiday Highlight(My Birthday)

“Arrghh”! I yelled as I woke up in a bed fulled of balloons well to me it was like a pool of it. One more thing right in front of my face huge word on a piece of paper were saying happy birthday.Just after I read those words I got out of bed and I started to wake my sister up and also she was surprised but just before I was going to say with glee two of the balloons popped and made a loud sound which woke up my dad and he is a very deep sleeper.

During midday we went out to St Luke's to get my present,my dad brought me a camera it was so cool I took heaps of photos that morning. After that we went to the dairy and brought 5 chocolate lamination's and heaps of lollies for my cake we named it The Monster Slash Caterpillar type thingy, with the lollies we made it like Godzilla, with the airplane's it was chucked on, some Landed on its sour tongue which was surprisingly yummy.

The most exciting activity was clip and climb which was amazingly fun because I had to go down the vertical slide it was scary, when I had to drop I didn’t really want to and then. “Arrgh” I said as my guts felt like they were on my head. “Few that was scary” I told my dad.

Later on we had to go home and finally eat the monster slash Caterpillar type thingy (my cake). It delicious. At about quarter two five we went out to the park for like an hour and then we had to go home.

That was the most exciting day of my life, so far. I cant what for next year or my sisters birthday we might be going Ice skating. I like ice skating too.
